The Lord Mayor of Bristol\u2019s Children Appeal is a registered charity that raises money throughout the year to help the city\u2019s most disadvantaged children and young people at Christmas time.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Every year, more and more children in Bristol face a bleak Christmas. It is one of the UK\u2019s most prosperous cities but shockingly has the highest proportion of young people in poverty in the South West. Lawrence Hill is one of the UK\u2019s poorest areas with 60% of children in poverty<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our volunteers work throughout the year to raise a total of \u00a382,500 through a gala dinner, carol concert and other events. Through the generosity of individuals, schools, organisations and businesses, we are able to help a total of 1,650 of the city\u2019s children who are most in need. These vouchers are administered by Bristol City Council. This allows us to give each child a \u00a315 voucher for gifts or clothing and a \u00a335 voucher for food.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our History<\/h3><\/div>

The Appeal started in the 1920s, when it was known as the Lord Mayor\u2019s Fund, and raised money to \u201cgive the city\u2019s poor children a Christmas dinner and boots\u201d.

Today, the Lord Mayor of Bristol is Patron of The Lord Mayor of Bristol\u2019s Children Appeal which raises \u00a382,500 each year to give 1,650 children a better Christmas.<\/p>

Every pound matters! We keep administration costs to a minimum, relying on the support of volunteers drawn from Bristol\u2019s Rotary, Round Table, Lions, Soroptimist clubs and others.
